When the weather is 75 Fahrenheit outside, it is hard to get in a Christmas mood, but there are some places in the Los Angeles area that make the Christmas spirit come alive.
One of these places is The Grove with its beautiful display of lights and the gigantic, decorated Christmas Tree.
The Grove is located at 189 The Grove Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90036, off of Fairfax and W. 3rd (for a more detailed map go to http://www.thegrovela.com/map.html), about a 45 minute drive from Whittier (a little faster if there is no traffic).
Parking is easily found at The Grove in the huge parking structure off of W. 3rd St, however, when you get there in the evening, you might have to do a bit of driving up and down the structure as it can get a bit busy. Once you park your car, walk over to the elevators and enjoy the fantastic views from the higher level parking decks. Looking towards The Grove, this is what you will see:
The Grove offers a multitude of shops and restaurants to chose from and let's not forget the fabulous Farmers' Market with its 75-year tradition - food stand after food stand with delicious treats from all over the world, with little specialty shops mixed in between. One of my all-time favorites is Pampas Grill (Brazilian specialty foods) towards the back of the Farmers' Market, simply delicious! This time of year, The Grove is particularly exciting for the little ones - besides the beautiful Christmas tree, there is also a great display of Santa with his reindeer high above in the air AND it even snows! Well, not real snow, but it sure looks real enough to get the little ones excited :-)
The Grove also has a wonderful fountain and water display in the center of the little pond, a pretty stream off to the side, and a bridge to cross the water.
Besides all the wonderful decorations, The Grove of course also has a multitude of stores where you can do your Christmas shopping. You will find stores like Anthropology, Banana Republic, GAP, Guess, Michael Kors, among many others, as well as my personal favorite, a gigantic Barnes & Nobles with a huge selection of books (wonderful books on Architecture, Photography and Arts).
